ERCP: Diagrams

Above left:The pancreas and bile ducts drain through an opening into the duodenum, just beyond the stomach.
Above right:In ERCP, the endoscope is passed through the mouth, down the esophagus, and stomach, and into the duodenum.

Above left:A catheter is passed through the endoscope, then into the pancreas duct and bile duct.
Above right:Contrast, or dye, is injected through the catheter, into the pancreas and bile ducts, under X-ray.
